Irshad Ghani

CEO


Worked with Pakistan International Airlines for over 35 years. Has exposure to almost all areas of the airline. Worked as Head (Director) of the Departments of Marketing, Corporate Planning and Information Technology. Has vast experience as head of (General Manager) International Affairs, Passenger Sales, Marketing Planning and Industry Affairs’ divisions. Has been representing PIA in Government of Pakistan delegations negotiating Bilateral Air Services Agreements with other countries.

Engineer by education, was trained at Boeing, McDonald Douglas and Airbus [Aeroformation] as Performance and Operations Engineer. Has also attended Pilots’ Transition Training Courses and Maintenance Engineers Courses and Conducted training on performance for Flight Crews. Has interacted closely with Engineering and Maintenance Department following repeated defects, evaluating modifications, investigating accidents and incidents and conducting performance checks and test flights.

Has also been working in close coordination with Airport Services, conducting training of Weight and Balance all over the network and guiding them on Live Cargo and Odd Cargo Shipments.

Specializes in preparation of Business Plans, Fleet Plans and Marketing Strategies. Expert in Code Share, Interline Pricing, Bilateral Air Services Agreements/Traffic Rights, Regulatory Affairs, IATA Affairs and Aircraft Lease/Purchase Agreements. Handled appointment of and agreements with General Sales Agents, Passenger Sales Agents, Travel Agents. Has been actively involved in Aircraft evaluations and inductions. Pioneer of Code Share and non-conventional sales strategies like sales through Branchless Banking and Virtual Agents, in PIA.

Syed Shahid Ali

Specialist – Quality Assurance


He is a Quality Assurance Professional with over 39 years’ experience in the Aviation Industry. He has been involved in IATA Operational Safety Audits as a certified IOSA Internal Auditor and Quality Management Systems as a certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, he has been certified by reputed organizations such as, Civil Aviation Authorities of Pakistan, Boeing, COSCAP-South Asia, EU-South Asia (Civil Aviation Projects), AC & T (an Australian based aviation consultant company), etc.

He has been an acceptance team member for the induction of Boeing 777 aircraft in Pakistan International Airlines and was dealing with relevant vendors for CDR and other quality inspections, he was also responsible for induction of State-of-the-Art high performance jet aircraft the Eclipse-500 in Pakistan for a private company. He also qualifies as an aircraft cabin safety professional. He has worked very closely with Development Engineering and Flight Operations for maintaining Safety & Quality Standards.

He is well versed with Pakistan CAA Rules & Regulations and ANOs governing operations of Charter and Regular Public Transport aircraft.

Dr. Muhammad Jameel Khan

Specialist - Research and Analysis


Ph.D.(Econ.) from Colorado State University USA. Has experience of research and studies in USA, Australia and Pakistan.

Author of 97 Journal articles / reports published by recognized institutions at national / international level. In addition, has the honour of supervision and editorship of 140 economic research reports prepared by Punjab Economic Research Institute, Planning & Development Department, Government of Punjab.

Worked as Advisor to Planning Commission Government of Pakistan, Director Punjab Economic Research Institute, Professor of Economics at University of Sargodha and as External Expert on the Board of Faculty of Economics with University of Management & Technology Lahore. Prior to that worked as Deputy Director State Bank of Pakistan and as Principal Research Officer (Economist), Australian Bureau of Agricultural Economics in Canberra, Australia.

Represented Planning Commission of Pakistan at Trilateral Consultations at Doha, FODP Meeting at Abu Dhabi and FAO Meeting at Bangkok. Has conducted numerous studies and analysis of policies, projects, development plans including Socioeconomic / Livelihood Development. Has also been involved in feasibility, evaluation and Environmental Impact Assessment Studies of multidisciplinary nature. Clients for studies include UNDP, ILO, UNICEF, FAO, IFAD, UNCRD-Nagoya Japan, International Food Policy Research Institute USA, Planning Commission of Pakistan,State Bank of Pakistan, and various federal and Provincial Ministries/Departments of Pakistan.

Shahid Sarwar

Specialist - IT


Masters in Administrative Sciences with over 40 years experience in Information Technology. Started off with programming in Assembly Level Language, Fortran and Cobol in the early seventies. Has seen the dramatic evolution of developments in Information Technology from the days of Unit Record Equipments to Mainframes and then to the introduction of Personal Computers and the present-day E-Commerce tools.

Has worked as Director IT and Director Flight Services at Pakistan International Airlines. He has also worked as General Manager of Food Services, Communications, Reservations Planning and MIS during his tenure in PIA. Earlier He he served Pakistan National Shipping Corporation as Data Processing Officer.

Possesses rich and varied experience of leading projects like PIA’s migration to SABRE, Passenger Reservation, Cargo Operations, Departure Control, ACARS and Load Control. He was involved in the establishment of PIA’s Call Centre, Development of PIA’s Web Site and introduction of Corporate E-mail system. He remained involved in the development of SOP’s, SLA’s, negotiations with GDS’s and NMC’s He has also been heading the Software teams for PIA’s financial systems like Revenue Accounting, General Accounting and Station Automation. He was the Project Incharge of PIA’s team during the construction of Karachi Jinnah Terminal and Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Airport.

The Hardware he worked upon was IBM System-32, IBM System 34, IBM 1401, IBM 360/50, IBM 370/148, IBM 4381, IBM 3090, IBM Multiprise, IBM Z10, ICL1901-A, NCR Tower 450, Tower 600, Tower 650, NCR System 3000, ICL 1902, ICL ME29. He has been a Faculty member of Institute of Business Administration Karachi for teaching Information Technology courses to MBA and PGD classes. He delivered lectures at IATA and SITA conventions and at senior management courses conducted at the PIA’s Training centre.

Jawaid Lodhi

Specialist - Finance


Possesses Masters in Business Administration. Has more than 34 years of experience in Finance and Accounting sector of Airlines. Has had worked as General Manager Finance in PIA and as Director Finance in an African Airlines.

Has in depth knowledge of Airlines’ Financial/Management Reporting, development of Internal/Financial Controls, development of detailed procedures to enhance clarity and strengthen Internal Controls, development of comprehensive Budgets and their subsequent monitoring, effective and proactive Treasury Management, Developing Route wise and Sector wise costs and Revenues, hiring new tams for Finance Department and imparting extensive trainings and selection of appropriate systems for the Department and their subsequent implementation.

He was a member of the team for re-launching operations of an African Airline and as such he can be of great help for smoothening the operations of a troubled or completely grounded Airline.

Zulfiqar Ali

Specialist - Airport Services


Ex General Manager Terminal Services, Pakistan International Airlines. Ex Corporate General Manager Marketing, Sales and Services of Aero Asia.

A law graduate, has been associated with services area of Aviation Industry since 1964. Joined Pakistan International Airlines at the entry level, through Commercial Officers program entered the middle management and for diversified experience worked as commercial instructor at PIA Training Centre and conducted courses at various domestic and international stations.

Has rich experience of Passenger Handling, Ramp Handling, Airport Management and Planning. Has been head of Airline Station Activities at many Airports in Pakistan and at several stations outside Pakistan. Has excellent record of regularity and service improvement through modified procedures, new systems and innovative management.

Played active role as Chairman AOC at Abu Dhabi Airport. As Corporate General Manager (Terminal Services), Jinnah Terminal introduced upscale performance of service standards which were handsomely achieved. Has always taken initiative in implementing innovative projects.

Managed Airline operations as Country Manager Bahrain, where in addition to Marketing and sales he was responsible for Airport functions as well. Has been inter-acting with travel agents, business houses and other airlines to develop interline revenue.

Abu Bakr Bugvi

Specialist - Fuel Management


Possesses Masters degree in Statistics. Served Pakistan International Airlines for 35 years and held various senior positions including the key position of General Manager Fuel Control.

He was responsible for meeting the airlines Jet fuel requirements all over the world and to deal with any of the emergency and crisis situations. The role entailed provisioning, tendering, contract negotiations, handling & payments in lieu of technical parts and aviation fuel. Was also responsible for the ground handling, Users and overflying charges for the airline. He developed and implemented Economic Tinkering very effectively.

Has vast experience in dealing with multinational Oil Companies like Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Air Total, and BP etc. Possess extensive hands-on experience of oil trading, shipping, surface & pipeline transportation, & storage & Into plane servicing of aircraft.

Feroze Akhtar

Specialist - Engineering & Maintenance


A mechanical Engineer with over 37 years experience in Aviation Industry. Served with PIA, Air Indus and AirBlue.

He is a Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer having attended various Technical Courses courses with PIA Training Centre, Aircraft Manufacturers.

Has vast experience in Airworthiness Management, Development Engineering and Quality Control areas. Has been involved in important projects like Comparative Evaluation of B-777 with other options for induction into PIA Fleet; Eval;uation of used aircraft for addition to PIA fleet; Comparative study and preparation of evaluation reports aircraft engines and other aviation products; Preparation of Maintenance Schedules; Peparation of reliability reports and investigation of technical delays.

Asif Qadeer Hussain

Specialist - Operations and Performance


A professional engineer and Masters in Business Administration. Has attended a number of professional courses in Pakistan and abroad. More than 38 years’ experience in the field of Flight Operations Engineering and Routes & Navigation at different senior levels including 18 years of Management experience as Manager/Dy. General Manager Operations Engineering and Routes & Navigation in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Rayyan Air (PVT) Limited.

Has been Flight Operation’s Focal Point/Project Manager for evaluation, selection, contract negotiation, induction and operation of new and old aircraft, performance evaluation and selection of engines for new aircraft and aircraft acquired on Wet or Dry lease for Internal and External Audits like IOSA, ICAO, JAA and Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA). Has conducted runway and route feasibility studies for economical and safe operations of aircraft. Instrumental in establishing a website for soft copies of manuals.Participated in AOC and external audits of Rayyan Air (PVT) Ltd.

He has extensive Coordination experience with other departments especially with QA, Flight Safety, Engineering, Marketing, Traffic and Information Technology for solutions related to aircraft operations support and payload carriage, Design of trim sheets / load sheets of different types of aircraft, Performance Data Base computations, management and control for Flight Planning, Takeoff, En-route and Landing Performance calculations.

His experience includes Coordination with foreign regulatory agencies and manufacturers, Interpretation and implementation of ICAO, FAA, JAA regulations, Evaluation of modifications effecting aircraft operation and safety, Investigation of technical incidents and delays and suggest remedial actions. He is a Pakistan CAA approved Performance and Weight & Balance instructor and also an approved person for weighing of aircraft and preparation & calculation of weight and balance schedule of aircraft.

Ghazanfar Bashir Ahmed

Specialist - Sales, Reservation Systems, GDS


Over 35 years experience in Sales at all levels and at various stations. Has vast experience in ticketing and pricing. Managed Sales and Reservation sections at several stations of Pakistan International Airlines.

Expert in e-solutions. Was responsible for cut overs from one GDS to another, e-ticketing cut-overs, IET cut overs between PIA and other airlines.

He holds IATA /UFTA Diploma in Tariff Ticketing. Has been conducting e-ticketing training all over the world and had been helping all users of sales, reservations and departure control systems from the help desk.

An expert on Technicalities of modern day ticketing also possesses deep understanding of human factor in sales. A practical and tactical Sales person who has always managed his units with his personal charm and excellent inter personnel skills.

Worked as Territory Manager/Branch Manager of Speedex, a Courier Service run by PIA. Organised and established sales outlets of Speedex. Possesses deep insight of the courier business.

Iqbal Bashir Shaikh

Specialist - Flight Crew Training, Scheduling and Marketing


Has 33 years experience with PIA. Started career as a Flight Engineer. Operated Boeing 707 and Airbus A300 before moving on to Ground Operational and Administrative assignments.

Has vast experience of Cargo Operations. Developed Cargo Handling Procedures, coordinated with TSA and DFT for implementation of rules and regulations on security and safety and implemented IATA regulations and procedures. Well aware of ISO, IOSA and HSE guidelines. Also has rich hands-on experience of Market Planning and Sales. Has been actively involved in preparing the operation planning and fleet planning, targeting & monitoring revenue along with focusing on the Revenue optimization. Ensured service and operational standard in line with ISO, IOSA and HSE guidelines.

Was responsible for Tours Promotion. Well experienced in organizing promotional campaigns. Has been participating in International Travel and Tourism events [WTM-London, BITE-China, ITB-Germany, ATM-Dubai, JATA-Japan). Handled Charter Business, especially movement of religious, social and business groups. Has been coordinating and negotiating charter pricing with clients.

He also played key role in Pricing Policy & Revenue Management to ensure achievement of targets. Key figure in coordinating with Corporate Planning and Finance Department for finalization of targets and cargo space availabilities on network. Achieved maximum revenues at the highest return for PIA through sales initiatives and programs in conjunction with corporate objectives.

Bilquis Ahmed

Specialist - Flight Services, HR & Training


Has over 44 years of experience in the Aviation Business with a total of 38 years in Cabin Crew Training. Joined PIA as Cabin Crew and moved on to various other (ASPECTS) of sales reservation and Administration. Besides Cabin Crew and Flight Crew Safety Training at PIA, she also spearheaded training of initial 200 cabin crew inducted in Emirates Airline at the time of its inception. She also trained cabin crews of Air Malta, Air Tanzania and Syrian Arab Airlines.

Experience includes a multitude of responsibilities like Preparation of Training Manuals and Syllabi of cabin crew training, Organizing training with specialty in preparing hands on training (related to all aspects of cabin and Flight Crew safety training), Matching Cabin and Flight Crew training standards with IOSA standards, Recruitment of Cabin Crew, Training and Induction of Flight Service Instructors, Conducting live evacuation drills and other related drill in coordination with airport authorities involving Civil Aviation authorities as well as other Civic agencies to check application of set international safety standards.

She also has the experience of Coordinating Flight Service requirements in the aircraft at the time of induction of new aircraft fleet.

Zafarullah Khan

Specialist - Regulatory Affairs


Ex Director Airworthiness Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. Has also worked as Technical Adviser to Director General Pakistan CAA.Has played an important role in development of Civil Aviation in Pakistan for over 40 years.

MS in Aerospace Electronics from Cranfield Institute of Technology UK, he has held Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s licenses on Electrical/Instruments, Avionics, Communication, Navigation, FMS, AFIS and Pulse Systems.

Has vast experience on Safety Oversight Audit/Inspection, Airworthiness Surveillance, Investigation/Analysis of Accidents/Incidents. Quality/Safety Audit Inspection of Aircraft Maintenance/Overall Organizations.

Well conversant with ETOPS, EROPS and EASA 145/147 regulations. MEL, Aircraft Induction/Leasing requirements and SMS/ Quality System. Has been working as Aviation Safety Consultant with Bureau Veritas, an international certification Organization.

Has deep in-sight of Rules, Regulations, Standards and issues relating to Maintenance Facilities and Aircraft Maintenance Standards/ Schedules.

His understanding of regulatory aspects, interaction with International Aviation Agencies; Safety, Surveillance and Quality related experience; Audit experience is very useful for all maintenance units and airlines that may be looking forward to achieving certifications/approvals and a place for themselves in accredited organizations.
